TYPO3 Micro Sites

In 2005  there was a discussion on the TYPO3 Support Forum about a customized lite version of TYPO3 for small websites.

The concept of TYPO3 lite, and microsites, address the needs of both small and large businesses needing affordable, fast, simple user friendly solutions that can be customized for specifc needs.

Besides providing near instant project deployment, microsites built on TYPO3 have a unique strategic advantage over competing solutions in that they can be easily extended into large scalable projects as budgets permit. TYPO3 microsites are highly portable solutions and can be demoed entirely off a USB stick. http://www.chsoftware.net/en/useware/wos/wos.htm

Microsites are a strategic component for search engine marketing and SEO, supplement primary websites, allow advertisers to conduct real time interactive marketing and are used for one time promotional sites that have a short life cycle such as political campaigns and holidays.

An example of how TYPO3 can be used for a microsite using a single TYPO3 front end extension and the Zen Light wire frame template can be seen here.

The concept of a *minimal* set of features for the TYPO3 backend was realized by Tapio Markula who developed the TYPO3 extension Content Access and Extended Interface Control (tm_contentaccess). The extension tm_contentaccess allows TYPO3 to be stripped down or built up for different user groups accessing the TYPO3 backend and compliments TYPO3’s granular user group permission features nicely.

In addition extensions such a Page Template Selector (rlmp_tmplselector) and Template Selector to Column View mapper (stfl_tmpl2columns) can be used to deliver a simple intuitive back end interface for the most non technical TYPO3 end users as seen here.

Introducing the Zen template series to the equation further simplifies template integration and customization for designers new to TYPO3. These wire frame templates are almost entirely controlled by CSS making them easy to customize and a favorite for search engine marketing. The Zen series templates can be used as is or to incorporate more sophisticated purchased designs.
