Gerri,

The only thing I can think of is starting over with a clean install of TYPO3 4.04 and CHC Forum. Try setting up a new TYPO3 site and cloning it using a master prototype that has been tested.

example
http://zmicro.mediatech.net

To create a master installation clone simply tarball a preconfigured TYPO3 site (extensions and all) and do a MySQL dump and import to another site. If you have the shell commands pre written it takes less than 10 minutes to clone a fully functional starter site.

Stay with TYPO3 4.04 and watch the developer list for issues. I also noticed at least 1 extension that behaves oddly on TYPO3 4.1.0 RC1 so until enough 3rd party developers address theses issue and upgrade their extensions we may be looking at sticking with v4.0.4 for a while.

TYPO3 is apparently going through some very big API changes after v4.5 so my recommendation is to keep an eye on the developer and project list and stick with the most actively developed extensions to play it safe this year.

Have a look at the roadmap and it becomes clear all existing extensions may need to be migrated to a new TYPO3 API in the future.

I'm still here, and still reading all the posts. I've just been so swamped with other TYPO3 work lately that I haven't had time to work on the forum much. It is still on my radar, however, and I do hope to put aside a week sometime in the somewhat near future to implement a number of patches, fix some bugs, and add a feature or two.

This thread also represents a current trend.

If there's anything you need regards the dedicated server feel free to give me a shout anytime.

As for checking chc_forum with typo3 4.04.
1) I did check the database compare stuff, there was nothing unusual, same number of tables etc... They're all on the same server so same version of MySql.
2) I compared the file sizes of a working v1.4.5 with the one that didn't. Besides the templates (the working one has slightly customised templates) nothing different.
3) I uninstalled and reinstalled right back to v1.4.1. Something wasn't quite right here... I completely deleted the extension using the EM, checked it had gone from the server filesystem also, used the install tool to remove the tables from the database. However, when reinstalling, it remembers previous forum folder settings... spooky wooky....
4) Also compared file permissions and respective owners at filesystem level.

I've set up this extension quite a few times now so I'm pretty comfortable with it I'm just dumbfounded as to why this is happening. Why me???

As a workaround I've used the tt_board but it's just not the same....

I'm also noticing a few extensions don't work as well as they might with 4.0.4. Trying to find an events calendar for instance has become the job from hell.

Take care

Gerri

Not cheeky at all. It's always useful to figure out if something is bug or configuration related to help others who have the same problem. Also if you're running a dedicated server I may need some help in the future

Did you do a Compare using the database analyzer in Tools > Install? Let me know all the steps you took please. If nothing else I can give you a test account on my VPS to look at.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the fast response.

I've just checked and I'm pretty sure it's not the php version because I have my own dedicated server and other sites use v1.4.5. I've set quite a few sites up using this version on the same server and none of them are showing the same errors. All other sites are Typoo 3.8.1 or lower. It has to be something to do with Typo3 4.0.4 but I haven't a clue where to look. I've looked in the bug forums and can't find anything there.

I guess coming to you for advice is more than a bit cheeky, but do you have any ideas on just what I should be looking for? I can't find anyone out there who has the same type of environment to ask.

All help is appreciated and in the meantime I'll go away and look to see what differences there are between the Typo versions.

Thanks lots again,

Gerri

Hi Gerri,

I'm wondering if there may be an issue with PHP 5? Can you downgrade PHP to 4.x and see if that makes a difference?

Subject: chc_forum with Typo3 4.04
Hi Greg,

Just wondering if you can help me here....

I have upgraded from Typo3 3.8 to 4.0.4 and have loaded chc_forum(v1.4.5) together with cwt_community (v0.8.3) and cwt_community_user (v0.1.1)

I've installed chc_forum quite a few times and never had any problems.

There's a few things missing or not working correctly...
a) The Last Post Info column contains no information, neither the date/time or the userid. It does show "No Posts"
b) There are no email or buddy icons coming up in the UserList so no opportunity to remove or email and the same is true for the buddy list.
c) I can submit a new message ok but it's contents always appear in the new message box below almost as if it was put there for the purpose of being quoted.

Any ideas at all? I've completely removed all of the extensions from the system and re-installed, plus I've tried earlier versions, but nothing fixes the above problems.

I don't know if it helps or not but I'm running with Apache 2.0.54, PHP 5.0.4 and MySQL 4.1.2.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Gerri
