Be sure you don't have HTMLArea installed twice as a system extension and as a local extension. HTMLArea is now a default core extension in newer versions of TYPO3 (4.05+). This is not the case in pre 4.05 releases.

There was also a bug in HTMLArea with Firefox that caused the editor to hang.

To my knowledge the HTMLArea works only as a system extension now. If you are using an older version of TYPO3 (Pre 4.05) you may need to use a different editor.

CBstarter is also moving towards TinyRTE

RTE.default.proc.typolist = 0

Subject: htmlArea RTE broken

After noticing in your install tutorial for zwire that you had 'rtehtmlarea' installed as an extension, so I installed version 1.4.4. Now, I get the error "The editor is being loaded. Please wait." which hangs forever. I see traffic online about this error, tho it supposedly has been fixed, but I guess not. I've tried several browsers and 2 different platforms, along with clearing cache, and updating global references. No dice.

Unfortunately, DE-installing the RTE only serves to return to text-only editing (and does not return the original RTE as expected). Tho TinyRTE seems to work fine, if slowly.

Any idea how I can return the default RTE?
