After installing Typo3 4.0 I am not able to get in to the extension repository to download any other extensions. When I try to search the extension repository I get the message:

Error: The extension MD5 sum could not be fetched from extensions.md5. Possible reasons: network problems, allow_url_fopen is off, curl is not enabled in Install tool.

I have modified my php.ini file to have my resources at a high limit (as shown below): allow_url_fopen = On
max_execution_time = 120
max_input_time = 120
memory_limit = 256M

I have also tried to enable curl in both Typo3 and my shared host php.ini files, but as I do not have access to apache/bin/php.ini, enabling curl does not appear to work. I get an error when curl attempts to run.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem? I have checked the web and mailing lists and not been able to find a solution. My web host is aplus.net.
