Yes, i am using symbolic links. All directory changes have been dealth with, the install tool doesn't report any errors.

When i try to run DB check, it times out.

The website has hundreds of pages in it, Copying database and dumping into new may be a problem due to this.

Are you using symbolic links? There have been some file and directory changes since 3.8.1. My recommendation is to do a fresh install and dump your 3.8.1 database into the 4.0 installation after dropping all tables in the 4.0 DB. You need to use the DB tools in Tools > Install to compare and update the old 3.8.1 database to 4.0. Finally run a Tools > DB check.

After that replace your 4.0 uploads and fileadmin folders with the old 3.8.1 folders and of course the old 3.8.1 extension folder.

I recently upgraded my typo3 site from 3.8.1 to 4.0 and all my click to enlarge photos do not work. a window is launched with the following displayed.

Parameter Error: Wrong parameters sent.

can anyone help?

I have already deleted temporary images from typo3temp folder as was suggested on one of the newsgroups i read.
