Thanks for the 2 cents! This is the kind of input that helps me and others produce a better product in the future. The tutorials and releases are mostly funded by client projects and are the result of a lot of partner and client feedback... I just get the fun job of production and testing
The goal of Zen Wireframe, as it evolves, is to introduce a set of production standards and preconfigured options for larger web site projects using TYPO3.
We're also trying to develop these tutorials for partnering contractors and to train others we outsource to here in the USA. The tutorials can also be used for in house staff training for larger companies with their own IT department. Custom commercial tutorials are another market.
Right, this is where I need to finish the tutorial for exporting a .t3d file from the Business Edition into the Core. The entire process should take 10-20 minutes for tt_news with some manual edits to the + News TypoScript basis template.
The idea behind the Core was to provide a base package for the low budget projects that only require basic functionality.
This is exactly what I do for projects needing more than 1 or 2 features like news and blogging. Again you can export and import the TIMTAB Weblog page tree and other configured extension pages if you need to add 1-2 features to the Core via the Business Edition.
We're working on a Corporate version that includes a business directory, TYPO3 Calendar and other extensions so we can export into the Business Edition or Core.
The Core took the longest to test for production use too since everything else got built on top of it. Since all packages contain the Core templates, it makes it easy to mix templates and features between packages via the .t3d export tool.
I agree if you need more than the basics. If you would like to contribute to the ways we can use these packages for increasing the quality of our production and development standards please post ideas here.
Keep in mind that you can also use the Wireframe model to close sales and market demo sites. This is very useful when you you're bidding on an RFP and want to show the client a live functional concept site to help move things forward!
Kind regards,
Gregory Remington

However, I find that importing extensions from Business to Core is too difficult. Example - I wanted to add tt_news to Core. Exporting and importing would be a big chore. I manually installed it instead, but that still took some doing, especially for newbies (I'm a step up from a newb, I'd say.)

My point is, I really think it might be best to always use Business, and then simply disable the functions that are not needed. Except for the simplest of websites, you'll at least want tt_news.

Don't get me wrong, I still think the Core is necessary. After all, Business is built on it. Core is perfect for a developer who likes to start with just the very basics and build on it.

But, for most end-users who wants to get a jump start on building a site, go with Business and save the headaches!
