I haven't run into any issues with TYPO3 4.2 RC2 other than some of the extensions themselves. For example the latest version of Modern FAQ, the Toogle doesn't work as seen here in bug 0008122.
In short, all Zen Wireframe is is an organized set of extension specific CSS files, HTML templates and TypoScript templates. The TypoScript templates in Zen Wireframe are simply being used to configure extension settings and language output so people new to TYPO3 can speed up their learning curve and experienced users like myself can save a ton of time deploying new commercial projects.
If you're considering using Zen Wireframe as a learning tool then I would recommend using it now. If you're planning on starting a new project then please wait till the next release which I hope to have out by next week. I'll announce as a news item and send out a newsletter when version 2.1 is ready.
Version 2.1 is currently being tested here on TYPO3 4.2.
